Approach to Assessments

With over 30 years of clinical experience of working with children and families my process as a psychologist is of acquiring information through relationships founded on therapeutic values and involvement. I then use that information with other psychological frameworks particularly developmental ideas to construct an explanation of how what we observe can be understood and hopefully acted upon.

From this position I then attempt to do two things

1. assist professionals’ understanding so that a framework for decision making and service need becomes clearer.

2. assist the individuals’ understanding of their own position and hence clarify something for them; then from that understanding attempt to mutually develop a framework of changes that may be helpful.

Recommendations for further work are only made when there is an explored possibility that such work is/can be made available.
