| Chinese calligraphy by Zhong Ming of Chinese pictogram for ‘crisis’ which contains two elements—the top representing ‘danger’ and the bottom representing ‘opportunity’ |
I would describe my principal counselling /psychotherapy background as being an amalgamation of the individual person centred approach and systemic/interactive models (family therapy). My work is therefore a process of inquiry based on a respectful attitude of warmth, genuineness, empathy and interactive problem solving. This is within the context of appreciating the process of development (for adults as well as children) as being the driving force that results in life being the changing phenomenon it is.
| My style is characterised by a stance of "I am trying to understand what happens for you (singular and/or plural) and I may wish to include my experience in helping you to help me with my understanding". The ‘what happens?’ can be about an internal feeling or thinking processes or it could be about the interactions between people. My aim is to move towards a coherence of thought, feeling and behaviour in which each person is able to find in his/her experience an expression recognised as truly coming from within him/herself. This is the foundation from which an internal secure base develops within us all and from which ultimately creativity and love emerge. | ![]() |
